R.E.L. Maunsell the Chief Mechanical Engineer for the Southern region at the time needed some more mixed traffic 4-6-0s, so he modified the URA S15 design and produced 15 in 1926 and a further 10 in 1936, 827 is one of the 1936 batch. They worked mainly in Southhampton and West of England area, some in the Brighton area.

 

The original 827 was built in December 1936, withdrawn from service January 1964, delivered to Barry Scrap Yard in Wales in June 1964, were it laid for 14 years 4 months being the 95th engine to leave Barry in October 1978, it now resides at the Bluebell Railway.

 

The model is built to 3.5inch gauge and took 7 years to make completed in 1984. it ran trouble free for 14 years and is now being overhauled and repainted.
